Had that dream again I’m singing “happy birthday mr president” to Frosty the Snowman as a quartet with Teller, one of those robots who fell on the stairs and can’t get up, and an improvising Marlon Brandon in a muumuu and we do jazz hands so long he melts

Under-discussed Michigan politics story is that a co-founder of Uncommitted is about to become the Democratic nominee for a seat to the State Senate with the backing of Governor Whitmer

State Senate candidate Abbas Alawieh of Dearborn, cofounder of the Uncommitted movement and ex-chief of staff to Rep. Cori Bush, gave a passionate speech Sunday at the annual Arbaeen procession in Dearborn, declaring in Arabic: I’m American.

I may not have hit any of the normal markers of adulthood (marriage, property, pets, children) but I have kept a comprehensive list of things I have fallen off of to date (starting with a cliff, ending with a curb), and I think that might be worth some sort of congratulations at least.

'You'll choke too' - an aerial embroidery landscape inspired by all the wildfires happening right now... I'm upset every time I smell smoke outside and somehow we have people starting them maliciously too! But we all breathe the same air so they'll choke too (1/2 - see thread for close-ups)

Not sure if everyone appreciates the difference. Rooftop solar hardwires into your main panel via a dedicated breaker, so it requires a permit, an installer, an electrician, and a utility agreement. Balcony solar just plugs into a wall outlet, sharing an existing circuit with no permits or rewiring.

🛢️🇸🇦 Saudi Aramco posted a 44% year-on-year jump in second-quarter profit, to $32.69 billion even as the war disrupted oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab al-Mandeb strait.

The world’s largest oil company, which earned $22.67 billion in the same period last year, credited higher prices for crude, refined, and chemical products, driven up by the supply crisis the war created. Aramco’s average realized crude price rose to $108.10 a barrel, up from $66.70 a year earlier.

Liquids production fell 28%, and, per official Saudi figures, oil activity in the kingdom plunged 24.7% year-on-year, contributing to a 4.8% drop in real GDP for the quarter, as Iran’s closure of Hormuz and the Ansar Allah blockade of Bab al-Mandeb choked exports.

Aramco President and CEO Amin Nasser told reporters the July Ansarallah attacks had “no material impact” on the company’s results, operations, or cash flows. He said they had “no significant impact on our capabilities.”

His assessment appears to conflict with satellite imagery analyzed by open-source monitors, which showed fire damage and destroyed storage tanks at Aramco’s Jazan refinery, one of the kingdom’s largest, which was shut down for repairs after the attacks. Thermal data also revealed fire damage at the industrial zone in Saudi Arabia’s main Red Sea port of Yanbu.

Absolutely unbelievable how solar power has taken off worldwide during the Hormuz oil crisis. You don't have to hand it to him, but Trump may have done more to finally kick off a global civilization of effete librul solar users than anyone else in the West

Chart showing solar panel exports from China (the main solar panel maker by a long shot) growing steadily & mightily from 2018 through 2026, then spiking by almost 2x in March 2026.
