I cannot drive by cows without saying "cows!" which poses some logistical problems considering i live in southwest Oklahoma.

sorry to ruin your fun but his whole stoner nice guy routine is an act. Scooby's not even his real name, it's Gideon, and the only reason he can doss about in a mystery van is because his family, the D'Oubay-Doux, made a fortune in the East India Company in the 1700s. educate yourself.

My hot take is that the original sin that led us to chatbots was texting. We became accustomed to a text box on a phone being a stand in for our friends. Then Twitter accelerated this, where a text box was all of society. So people were conditioned to let chatbots deep into their minds and souls

The problem with writing in scrivener is I never know my page count until I compile so now I've accidentally written a 10 page paper for a 10 minute roundtable contribution and I have to delete half of it???? (Or convince the rest of the panel we should all go long and not let the audience talk lol)

But also: It is amazing that in less than four years we've gone from hearing sweeping claims about how "ChatGPT will solve climate change" to "my app can save you from having to get to know your family"

I think my ability to distinguish between "I am feeling weirdly anxious and low today" and "I am just a person having a totally normal reaction to being alive during the 2020s" might have completely vanished.

Yes, it challenged me with problems like fording the river vs paying for a ferry, dysentery, and having to leave behind 90% of the buffalo I'd shot. It helped me learn important lessons like "your life will be full of problems you do not understand and can't solve."

Americans who went to school in the 90s: did you play Oregon Trail? Did EVERYONE play Oregon Trail? I keep seeing it come up and wonder if it was truly that prevalent

This piece by student journalist Naishu Vempali made me pump my fist in solidarity. I hope when I’m back teaching at UMass next year they take a class with me, where they can expect nothing but top quality human-grade feedback, interaction, and attention. dailycollegian.com/2026/10/chat...

Being an artist in these times were AI is everywhere feels like having magic powers. You have the power to create something that comes from your soul and is not generated. That's amazing and I am glad I can create and animate my ideas, I hope artists will keep creating in those dark times.

All of these services are awful but what really strikes me here is how it’s explicitly positioning itself to replace the social aspects of learning. Students aren’t “alone,” without this garbage: they have (or should have) professors, classmates, other humans to learn from and with!

Have faculty elsewhere had their admin introduce CircleIn (an AI "tutoring" app that is integrated into LMSs) & if so are your students receiving emails like this? Despite being told that we can opt our courses out of CI, we've reason to doubt that—plus this email directly undermines us as teachers.

Hey [student],

Ever stared at an assignment and thought, "I have no idea where to start"? Or panicked before a test because you had a feeling of what grade you were going to get?

I noticed that [other student] in your class invited you to join CircleIn, and as the CEO I wanted to personally reach out.

We built CircleIn because college students have enough on their plates without having to figure everything out alone.

Need help understanding a concept? Studying for a big exam? That's exactly what it's for.

Here's my challenge: Give CircleIn 3 days. Use it for something you're already working on, then decide if it's worth keeping.

And since SUNY Geneseo is covering the cost, it's completely free for you.

I know AI is banned in some classes and a lot of students are worried about getting kicked out or failing a class using it anyway. Because your school purchased CircleIn for you and your classmates, you don’t have to carry all that anxiety.

Try CircleIn Free

I'm cheering you on!
