I'm sorry, I know academics who specialize in Homer probably watched it with a laundry list of grievances, but if I scroll through youtube Shorts right now I can find people making the kind of memes and skits about a 2800 year old epic that Breaking Bad produced at its peak popularity.

Escaped from Twitter. Here to mainly post stuff about politics and The X-Files (if interested, you can check out Virtual Season 12 at virtualseasons.x-sites.org)
This highlights a profound impact of Trump — the further normalization of violence against women. Trump got elected in spite of his long history of violence against women. He is not held accountable when he continues to abuse women. 1/2
Max Miller on why he's staying in the race: "When we go back to 2015 and 2016, & people in the media looked at President Trump, & everyone came out with allegations. Dozens of women, dozens of crazy allegations, dozens of nasty criminal misconduct. And you know what he did? He stayed in the fight."
I meant to post this last night but if you’re mad about any of the primary results you got 24 hours to bleed, try not to say anything you’ll regret in 48, and then it’s Blue No Matter Who.
Money out of politics. Money in your pocket. Medicare for All. Michigan... We won. I am so proud to be your Democratic nominee for US Senate. Let's win in November.
A gracious concession: “I want to congratulate Abdul El-Sayed on winning the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate. He is a doctor, a community health official, a Rhodes Scholar, and a dedicated Michigander. I am proud to offer my support as he takes on Mike Rogers in the general election…
I come from an Irish Catholic Union family and grew up in a red state; thus, I am a Yellow Dog Democrat
Oh my god the dietician who is telling everyone in the White House to only eat steak and sauerkraut doesn't wipe his ass.
meanwhile the six of us on team “shut up and get on board with the general election” banging our heads on the wall for a few months
looking forward to the centrists declaring a massive victory if Stevens lands anywhere from +.01% to -10% and immediately pivoting to Khive nonsense. looking forward to the left declaring they have received the mandate of heaven if they maintain a 3% edge. no one's happy and everyone's mad
The best thing about Vote Blue No Matter Who is that it unloads a lot of cognitive burden. I wanted Tom Steyer to be in the Governor's race, but he's not so I'm gonna vote for Becerra. I don't follow his campaign at all: I'm voting for him because he's not a Republican.
One thing people should notice, Dems are turning out in almost 2X the numbers of GOP in Michigan so far for this
BREAKING: ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Maryland lawmakers approve ballot measure for voters to clear way for new congressional maps that would boost Democrats.
If she's going to shitpost in the Atlantic like this then I don't think anyone has the right to complain when the rest of us make fun of her for it.
Like I don’t know, saw somebody engaging in the Emily Wilson agreeing portion of this and tagging her in like “if you ever come to my town let’s hang out I think you’re cool” and folks what are we doing here?
Getting someone with expertise to write scattershot about something tangentially related is what makes it the perfect Atlantic article.
just got an app on my motorola razr that does the Howie Scream when ever my fingers or my toes or my penis is bitten by dogs
Emily Wilson doesn’t like films and prefers literary art. That’s fine, it’s a free world but it’s not something I have to defer to her on bc she’s a classic professor
The most annoying thing to me is once again about how it's claimed that everyone who dislikes her views on The Odyssey is a chud or a dude or a Nolan apologist instead of someone who thought her review was actually kind of patronizing and a little racist even tho I agreed with some points.
I’m gonna have to mute the words Emily Wilson aren’t I?
Also, having seen the movie, I don’t think it does do that? Like at all? It /looks good/ and epic and the action is well-presented but that doesn’t actually undercut the message of the script whatsoever. I struggle to see where she got this criticism of the movie from.
She’s just milking the attention at this point. She’s got nothing but the harshest criticism for Nolan’s Odyssey but thinks Troy was “fun”? If she was truly bothered by how Nolan deviated from the story, Troy would give her ptsd. She’s gotta be trolling.
Some thoughts on this: First, “this story focuses on the perspective of the perpetrators” is not good criticism. The perspective of the victims is simply a different story, and it is incoherent to criticize one story for not being another.
Turns out @emilyrcwilson.bsky.social knows a lot about ancient epics www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
This is a long, complex essay, but it hews to a simplistic, almost naive moral: that you can’t show violence on screen without endorsing it. I would think an esteemed professor and translator as Wilson would be a bit more subtle.

I don’t think she knows what she wanted the movie to be about. I think she’s just upset her name isn’t synonymous with the Odyssey anymore.
That review was so self contradictory I don’t even know what she wants out of this movie and I can tell you I sure will not be reading a SECOND essay about it
Mainly I think it’s embarrassing The Atlantic commissioned this second swing at the apple piece instead of you know… someone else who might have something interesting to say… think of the freelancers I beg you…
Poster’s disease: the affliction of our time, fatal in rare cases
In Christopher Nolan’s “Odyssey,” viewers see inside the Trojan horse, but they “do not see inside the characters or their world,” Emily Wilson argues. theatln.tc/04uouYu6 🎨: Anna Ruch / The Atlantic. Sources: Heritage Images / Getty; Melinda Sue Gordon / Universal Pictures / Everett Collection.
Emily Wilson understand how film works challenge (impossible, apparently)
Odysseus knows it's a bad thing, it's a bad thing that needs doing and he needs to be the one to do it instead of Telemachus, because he already deserves the punishment for it
