I do think it’s a weird vibe to use “genocide” as a litmus test for politics insist on focusing on only one genocide because “it’s the one funded by the US” but then very much ignore the even larger genocide caused by the Republicans taking control of all levels of government.

The leftist idea that I've seen on here recently that democrats have NEVER helped anyone or done anything really devalues basic left-wing arguments. If the social programs of the past helped no one, why do more social programs? And frankly it devalues the millions of people those programs helped.

I would like to know where this conciliatory attitude was two years ago when Liz Cheney walked away from her entire party & political career and put her life in no small amount of danger in an attempt to help prevent Trump from becoming president again.

I don't have the tolerance for that shit. For all the bullshit we hear about genocide about Harris and stuff, these weak knees motherfuckers ain't doing shit about Trump and Netanyahu working together to erase Gaza. If it was so important to teach Dems a lesson, what was the actual fucking lesson?

A lot of this rhetoric makes people feel like they and their families deserve violence and don't deserve safety, when their family history is one of being physically and socially attacked, deported, segregated, and/or murdered. No one can be expected to take that in stride.

But now suddenly, in the new environment of the online left, there's permission to recycle those old antisemitic jokes so long as you whitewash them in the right way, direct them at the Jews whom it is permissible to hate and denigrate. That's still antisemitism no matter what people tell themselves

you simply cannot be an advocate for both "the will of the people" and left-wing ideas because we've repeatedly seen "the people" are not highly left-wing so the only way you can remain a populist and left-wing is by saying that some insidious elite is manipulating everything

Popularism and populism both derive from the same essential impulse, which is to construct a synthetic version of The People that will cure democracy of the need to adjudicate between competing claims.

You want to see what ignoring any sense of regular human courtesies and performative ritual statements looks like? It's Trump.

People do not understand that the whole point of democracy is not to "win," but rather to have a nonviolent means of deciding policy that results in a reasonably acceptable compromise that most of society can live with. It fails to achieve optimal goals because there's not one optimal set of goals.

The very unsexy reality is that winning the war is not the main issue. Wars are won all the time, and then started again. Winning the peace is, and it involves an inhuman quantity of the kind of care work no one likes to think about too hard.

Such fake performative toxic aggressively ignorant bullshit in saying that stuff like cutting child poverty in half, the largest investment in climate ever and infrastructure and forgiving billions in student loan debt vaccinating millions of people during COVID etc is fuck all

“My conscience wouldn’t let me vote for Harris.” Then your conscience is broken, because it led you away from empathy and into a choice that harmed hundreds of millions of people and benefited no one but the 50 worst people in the world.

This isn't complicated: Don't rape women. Don't ignore issues in a ballot box that would be massive red flags in a job interview. Don't confuse performative theater for the job of a legislator. The Republicans have proven what happens if do those things. We don't need to copy them.

A key to staying sane in trying times is to realize that your ability to create change, even in the best of times, is very limited, but your ability to make yourself feel bad about politics, or anything really, is basically unlimited and making yourself feel bad doesn’t make change more likely

it's entirely possible for americans to have a lot of angst about what our government is doing, recognize that they have extremely limited power to change it, and want to feel joy and pride about a soccer team, it's fine, demanding an explanation that reconciles all of this is unreasonable

What I'm celebrating? That the people survive and thrive. You want to despair? Well, that's your choice. My America is far more than Trump

people on the internet overrate the power and importance of words on screens, and underrate the power and importance of everything else. words are ofc very useful, but you can mostly just write whatever you want without constraints. not so with everything else. reality is brutally constraining.

And it's not because Democrats or "centrists" are holding them back because we love rich people or some shit. It's because we don't want the mass death and suffering that comes with revolutions, nor do we want the power vacuum (quickly filled with bullies) that comes after.

People who think the Democrats are weak/intentionally not doing anything are actually doing the inverse of dooming. They are lying to themselves about what their fellow Americans are like and believe because they need to blame someone other than voters for election results

IF you actually wanted Israel to cease to exist (I don't), the absolute WORST way to persuade people that its unnecessary is to attack people OUTSIDE of Israel for the "crime" of being Jewish in Europe, Asia, or the US. That's exactly why Israel was established in the first fucking place.

I will say that this website over-indexes on the position “it would be a moral good for Israel to literally cease to exist in the near to immediate future,” which is unpopular among voters for several reasons, among them that it would involve a second genocide of Jews
