I think the fact that cops are using Flock cameras to stalk exes and kidnap immigrants and refugees should absolutely be the last word about whether we give law enforcement even the slightest benefit of the doubt with speed cameras.
To clarify, I do think a society that isn't actively building the surveillance panopticon, using government agents to kidnap people off the street, and repeatedly lying about all of this, could be trusted to keep the roads safe from bad drivers with fancy cameras. We don't have that society.
Oh cops are already pulling drivers over and abusing them? Do you think they'll stop doing that when we have speed cameras? Are you 12? Are you in the market for a bridge?
Vigilantism is a bad way to run a society, but the only way to avoid it is for ordinary people to have reliable access to redress of injustice. You are scolding the wrong side.
If a person kills someone who is attempting a murder, we have (some) laws to protect them, and many would agree they are acting justly. If there is absolutely no system to stop someone who kills by proxy, and someone kills them to stop it, why is that philosophically different?
You could argue, correctly I think, that the current willingness to tear down the post war order is rooted in the fact the folks who could tell you why it was built are almost all gone.
There’s been surprisingly little about how we are in the very last years of living memory of service in WW2.

Not excusing murder, but the ebb & flow of cultural approval for vengeful anti-heroics tracks closely with eras of declining social trust & faith in institutions to live up to their professed ideals. John Wick might not have killed 100s of goons if a call to reliable authorities gave him justice.
This is all just the John Wick-ification of American political life. People are walking around with insane revenge fantasies in their heads and narcissistically deluded images of themselves as morally righteous badasses who will bring ruin down on their enemies if pushed to do so.
Hey Minneapolis, please keep an eye out for my ebike. It was stolen yesterday and i'd love to somehow miraculously get it back. It had no battery and missing a brake pad so I can't imagine in got far outside of Steven's Square.
Looks like this without the front basket or the battery
Abolishing ICE is now the official position of the Democratic Party
Here are things that happened at the DNC today: 1) Resolution calling to abolish ICE unanimously adopted 2) Brand-new early state calendar that reflects the full diversity of the Democratic base 3) Rejection of insider efforts to ban RCV from being used in presidential primaries Great results here
The availability heuristic is one reason why it's crucial to get off of Twitter, even if you're staying for some nominally sensible reason. People have a natural tendency to give credence to the values they see the most. If you're marinating over there, it's almost certainly affecting your judgment.

Drag brunch implies the existence of manifest brunch, unit brunch, intermodal brunch, and hotshot brunch!
I then offered that I have been convinced for years that he has no idea what asylum means, and thinks when immigrants are mentioned in the same sentence as asylum, he thinks of criminally insane like Arkham asylum. I remain convinced of this to this day. Every time he mentions immigrants
Which, by all means, continue holding the Empire's feet to the fire--such is the Lord's work--but you have to do it with the uncomfortable knowledge of what came before and how much fucking worse it was. The Right has dominated that legacy because the Left is so horny to carelessly piss on it.
look i do feel bad for the folks on the Lincoln but i must admit that i do find it a bit funny that Petey Heggles & Co, for all those DURR ART OF WAR shitposts, are just finding out 'you need to feed your army'
or you can YOLO into a war bibi convinced you of with no plan for conflict termination because logistics and plans are woke and gay
For as long as this has been there seals have been trying to break in and spawn-camping salmon in the thing. Back in the 90’s they had to ship one up to Alaska to stop it coming back.

A decade ago, Elon Musk called burning fossil fuels “the dumbest experiment in history." Now he owns a gas turbine company and has quickly turned into a fossil fuel tycoon.

SpaceX is planning a Texas natural gas plant to power a new chip facility, while gas turbines are already being used for campuses in Tennessee and Mississippi.
